School will open Wednesday with a gathering of all dorm staff and all of the children. Of course, with the high school studying in the village (San Bartolome) our school will have far less students. But for me that is a blessing as teachers will have more individual time with the students.

Last Saturday we had a staff breakfast in our house in honor of Orlando and Kimberly. Everyone brought food and we spent 2 hours in wonderful fellowship. Dottie prayed a beautiful prayer with words of wisdom for the newlyweds. Everyone is so busy, so this was a wonderful time of fellowship. I probably have not eaten so much at any other time in Guatemala.

But Christian joy and laughter is medicine, and we all needed a dose of His joyful Spirit.

Quique celebrates his 27th birthday today.

We found out why Dottie acted as she did. Due to the two dialysis children in the hospital Jackeline worked with them and the person who replaced her did not give Dottie her medicine. So, her acting out had a reason.

One of the girls, now a married woman, came and asked me to pray for her father as the gangs are fighting the police especially in the prisons where her father is incarcerated. As far as I know there is no gang activity in our area.

A new super maximum penitentiary for 40,000 inmates was built in El Salvador. It has 1000s of guards and total control by those guards. So, the prisons in Guatemala believe the government here will do the same thing. Thus the riots.  The President authorized the army to use deadly force to deal with the gangs. I know more I will let you know. The gangs killed 9 policemen in the city and 15 policemen in Esquintla.

We had several of the older children raised here come back for Sunday service and some stayed for dinner.

“The name of the Lord is a STRONG TOWER: the righteous runneth into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10”. In ancient cities, towers were massive stone structures built above the defensive perimeter walls. From these elevated positions, defenders could shoot arrows or hurl stones on the enemy forces outside.

The towers were the final line of defense if the invading army should succeed in breaking through the walls or battering down the city gates. This imagery also appears in the Psalms, where God is referred to as a HIGH TOWER. Psalms 18:2 and 144:2).
