#316 Our story

There were two extra optometrists with Dr. Mike. They saw all the children, staff and some of the families of the staff.

We received 3 new children last night.

7/7/2001. More teams are arriving as Don’s Mississippi group and Charlie’s Alabama both arrived. Bob has a tractor that came via a container from Gulfport

so he is pulling up stumps. All of the bicycles are paid for and being placed on a container for the trip to Casa. John & Herb are building cabinets. Our church in Chimaltenango came for a service and then treated everyone to dinner.

7/8. Pastor David has invited a number of his pastor friends from the USA to hold a pastor’s conference so they have arrived and immediately left with David for an area near Tecun Uman which is near the Mexican border. The courts sent me 8 children.

7/9. We received two boys, ages 8 & 10, whom the father said molested their sister. Neighbors and the mother verified that it was the father who was the abuser so the girl was sent here to be with her brothers.

7/10. Two of our best teenage girls ran away only to return 3 hours later. It was a traumatic event for me because so many horrible things can happen to a 15 year old girl in the streets of Guatemala. Two of our visitors bought treats for all of the children. I took 4 girls to forensic for testing and then in the evening I attended a PTA meeting where 11 of our teenagers attend high school.

7/11. Karen who was one of the women who gave out the treats fell and broke 2 bones in her leg. She will be laid up for a while. Dottie and I were instructed to go to Peronia a place known as the City of Thieves. We met with a woman who had a stroke and had 7 children. The courts wanted to know if we would take them. Of course, we said yes. Today is my birthday.
