More attentiveness

Ex-president Arzu passed away yesterday. He was currently the mayor of Guatemala City. His wife was the first First Lady to visit Casa and help us to get containers through customs. She dedicated the baby dorm and brought us children who needed a home.

I gave my testimony to the visitors.

Walt has been working with teams on the Casa Antoni building, and the changes look great.  Our plan is to serve around 30 children when the building is complete and the larger dialysis program is fully funded.  At the Board meeting, a review of active projects showed that part of our current dialysis program is unfunded, and several other projects still need to be completed.  So we agreed to finish the funded construction work at Casa Antoni, but then focus on those other priorities.  We plan to return to the dialysis expansion in the next couple of years.

  1. Be attentive to God. 2. Be attentive to your parents. 3, Be attentive to your conscience. 4. God tells us to be attentive (listen, heed, attend, harken, hear, consider, hang on the lips of the speaker, be courteous, considerate and thoughtful) to our elders. At my age of 75 there are fewer elders than I once had in my life.

I Peter 5:5 says,”Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder” and I Timothy 5:17 says, “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor”.

An elder does not necessarily mean someone older than you. Experience is what makes a person an elder. I need to submit to the wisdom that God has placed in another person.

  1. God tells us to be attentive to civil authorities. Proverbs 8:13 says, “Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not” “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake” I Peter 2:13. The various levels of government authorities is staggering. Here in Guatemala we have no fewer than 6 major government authorities telling us what to do. As long as what they tell us to do does not conflict with the Word of God we are to obey.

Finally, number 6 is be attentive to your employer. Colossians 3:22 says, “Servants obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God”. If we, as employees, do all we can to make the boss look good we ourselves will be blessed. Understand the pressures the head of an organization carries.
