Jim left for the States at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, leaving me a “single mom” to our 38 boys for 6 days until I can go to meet him up there. I try to subscribe to the KISS (Keep It Simple Sweetie) method, so to keep my stress level down, instead of engaging in a battle of wills with the boys when they break a rule or are disrespectful I am simply writing the offense down in a notebook and applying the appropriate discipline. It’s been great! I wish I’d thought of this sooner!
There has been an awesome team from the States here that have run our kids and people from our town through clinics for dental, vision, psychology and general medical issues. Bless their hearts, they have been veeerrry busy! But they have been keeping us busy too. On Monday and Tuesday they took kids in large groups and sent them through the various stations. Then today they took individual kids that they needed to finish up with as well as the people from the town. We were kept busy by shuttling our kids to and from the clinic…not so difficult for the girls because they are right there, but those of us on the boys’ side had to bring them back and forth across campus through the gates or over the pasarela. I definitely got my exercise!
The staff has been helping make lunch and dessert for the team, and tomorrow is my turn to provide dessert. It’s a small gesture, but a sweet (pun intended) way to say “Thank you” to the team for all their hard work. One of my jefes helped me make the brownies I’m serving because he has been wanting me to teach him to cook. The kitchen smells sooo wonderful now! I better get to bed before I’m too tempted to sample some.
Thank You, God, for giving me the strength to serve these boys while Jim is gone. Thank You for the support of my wonderful co-laborers.
